MapIt® Whole Genome Mapping Service
Using the unique & powerful Whole Genome Mapping Technology of OpGen, Inc. our MapIt service rapidly generates high-resolution, whole genome, ordered restriction maps from single DNA molecules.
What is Whole Genome Mapping?
Whole Genome Mapping is a de novo process that generates whole genome, ordered, restriction maps with no requirement for previous sequence information & provides a comprehensive view of genomic architecture. A Whole Genome Map is displayed in the unique MapCode™ pattern above where the vertical lines indicate the locations of restriction sites, and the distance between the lines represent the fragment size.
How does the MapIt Service work?

How can Whole Genome Mapping help my research?
- Comparative Genomics
Analyze and compare genomes from different strains to better understand gene function and relatedness.
- Sequence Finishing
Accelerate sequence assembly by aligning sequence contigs to a Whole Genome Map scaffold to rapidly order and orientate sequences.
We identified four misassembles, two due to repeat regions and two caused by a 1.5MB genome inversion by completing a Whole Genome map of the reference genome, strain RB50, which showed that the genetic structure of this strain aligns with the published genome sequence. - A.M. Buboltz
- Strain Typing
Characterize strains and monitor strain stability by determining genetic relatedness between multiple microbial isolates.
The low level of synteny observed between strains precluded any use of assembly methods based on mapping to reference sequences. Whole Genome map similarity cluster clearly demonstrates the diversity of the species. - Guillaume Barreau
What does the MapIt® service offer?
- Unprecedented Discrimination
Whole Genome Maps contain between 300-500 restriction cut sites per microbial genome-increasing discriminating power.
- Whole Genome Comparisons
Restriction enzyme cut sites are in the order in which they appear in the genome, enabling strain characterization at the whole genome level.
Whole Genome Mapping provides a comprehensive description of genome architecture, identifying novel Genomic Islands independent of whole genome sequencing. - Sanjay Shukla
- Unique Discoveries
Researchers can clearly visualize similarities and differences, identify rearrangements and track mobile genetic elements, relating phenotype to genotype.
This method [Whole Genome Mapping] has the capacity to combine greater resolution, positional information and the identification of novel insertions to an extent that is lacking in PFGE and CGH. - M. Saunders
- Innovative Technology
No other technology provides such compatibility with sequence information.
